Liberty Live is the educational component of Southern Campaign 1780. Designed as a mobile field trip unit, Liberty Live’s mission is to bring historically accurate,
interactive, and interdisciplinary American Revolution & South Carolina
Backcountry programs/ demonstrations to students of all ages.
When Liberty Live comes to your classroom or school campus, the LL team members will be facilitating all activities, demonstrations, and/or projects. Team members will be in period attire and using 18th C or period reproduction artifacts, or state-of-the-art technology when working within the STEALTH HISTORY programming, to create an authentic learning environment.
Liberty Live Learning Experiences generally fall into one of the following Learning Series: 1) Colonial Textiles & Clothing; 2) Colonial Foodways ; 3) Home & Hearth; 4) Colonel Games & Entertainments; 5) Road to Revolution; 6) American
Revolutionary War; and 7) The Southern Campaign. Each Learning Series consists of subtopics, each with accompanying interactive activities to increase student engagement. Our STEALTH HISTORY program encourages students to look at colonial history through highly developed STEM/STEAM Learning
Experiences. Steeped in science, math, technology, and other content areas, students will explore American Revolution events and its aftermath from new perspectives.
The biggest advantage is WE COME TO YOU! With rising costs of transportation and site admissions, trying to find and pay for substitutes, and the time it takes to plan the details of an off-campus field trip, Liberty Live presents an innovative alternative to your students. We bring all the artifacts, all the materials the students will be using, all the technology required, all the items for the make-and-takes, tents, cannons, muskets, in short, anything and everything we need to create the most authentic 18th century learning environment for your students. All you have to do is provide the learning space.
That is the beauty of the Liberty Live Education Program, it is customizable to fit your students’ needs, time constraints, learning space, and budget. Our curriculum is aligned with the following state and national standards:
-2019 South Carolina Social Studies College- and Career - Ready Standards
-2023 South Carolina Math College- and Career - Ready Standards
-2021 South Carolina Science College- and Career - Ready Standards
-Next Generation Science Standards (NSTA)
-College Boards AP Biology Standards
-College Boards AP US History Standards
If we do not have a Learning Experience covering your desired learner outcomes, we’ll work with you to create one.
You can book Liberty Live whenever you feel it best suits your classroom needs. For example, if you are introducing scientific inquiry/method to your students, ask for the “Dyes That Bind” Learning Experience in our Colonial Textiles & Clothing Learning Series. Not only will your students practice inquiry skills, they will also
learn about South Carolina’s indigo trade. At the high school level, this lesson gives students a visual redox reaction and incorporates the history of growing indigo in the colonies. A Patriotic Encampment Learning Experience makes for a great end-
of-the-year event.
Liberty Live does several event throughout the year at different locations in South Carolina. We post upcoming events on our Facebook page (SC Liberty Live),the Southern Campaign 1780 website, as well as send out event notices through our
email distribution list. Our annual SIGNATURE EVENT, the LIBERTY LIVE EDUCATION DAY, occurs every year, the second Friday of November. Kicking off the Battle of Camden Reenactment weekend, the Liberty Live Education Day is FREE to all students, teachers, parents, and chaperones. For more information
